Can I Get Work Permit with U Visa Pending?

The United States is a safe haven for those with a work permit from the Dept. of Homeland Security. The employment authorization document pictured above is from a Blandon Law client, whose U visa case is pending. When an ICE officer (the ones who arrest foreigners) look at a work permit, they read the client’s USCIS # and Category Card # found on the work permit. That’s part of how they decide who to take away and who to let go.

How Long Before I Get a U Visa Work Permit?

A long time.

How long it will take for the government to decide on a case is known as a “processing time.” USCIS had a website at this link which publicizes the processing time for most cases. A processing time on a client’s specific case is available only AFTER they file the case; cases filed on days when they are receiving many applications will take longer to decide than cases filed on days when USCIS receives fewer applications. Most U visa petitions are reviewed for bona fide determination or placement on a waiting list in fewer than four years. More years will pass before U status is finally granted.

What Documents Do I Need to File for a U Visa?

Blandon Law edits the personal statements which MUST be sent with the U visa application. We are very proud that no Blandon Law case has ever been rejected or denied because of a bad personal statement.  We also prepare the applications (U visa and work permit) together with evidence of the crime, evidence of harm, and other supporting documents.
