Three Clear Signs It’s Time to Fire Your Immigration Professional?

Struggling with delays, denials, or lack of communication? Here’s how you know it’s time for a new attorney, who will take over your case and contact your prior attorney or paralegal.
One – Communication Is Only With Paralegal
Attorneys depend heavily on paralegals to help gather information and prepare drafts of applications. Paralegals do not study law, however, and that’s why it’s ILLEGAL for them to advise clients or make strategy decisions. Even filing the wrong form (or the wrong version of the form) can put a foreigner at risk of deportation is considered illegal practice of law. If your attorney repeatedly ignores your emails or you don’t have an attorney, it’s time to fire the immigration professional you do have.
Two – Attorney Pressures You to Lie
If your attorney recommends you exaggerate your past, keep a fake Social Security number on your application, or otherwise seems uninterested in the long-term harm misrepresentation can cause, they are failing their responsibility. Worse, such an attorney is a danger, not an advocate.
Three – Non-Specialist Could Ruin Your Future
Because immigration law is so complex, even immigration attorneys focus on different types of cases. For example, Blandon Law has a strong focus on asylum and family-based cases, including Violence Against Women Act. If you don’t hire an expert, you’re basically gambling with your future – paying someone and just hoping they know enough to keep your case from getting delayed or denied. ALWAYS look at a law firm’s website to double check their specialty.
